About Two Flutes

TwoFlutes is a flute duet specialising in providing background music for your wedding (ceremony & reception), cocktail party or function. We play a range of classical and popular music and are often able to accommodate requests for specific pieces of music as well.

Lorna Wright M.Mus(Hons) A.MusA

Lorna studied at Waikato University, graduating in 2005 with a Masters in Music (with first class honors) in Performance Flute and received an Australian Music Education Board Associate in Music (with distinction) in 2002.

During her studies, she was under the tutelage of Catherine Bowie, Ingrid Culliford, and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra Principal Flautist, Bridget Douglas. The University of Waikato awarded Lorna a Cultural Blues Award in 2004 and was also the recipient of the University’s most prestigious cultural honour by being named Waikato University’s Cultural Person of the Year.

Following her music studies Lorna travelled to Germany to study German at Leuphana Universität in Lüneburg and currently works as an Itinerant Flute Tutor in schools across Auckland.

Anita Macdonald M.Mus, L.MusA

Anita completed her Bachelor of Music in Performance Flute at the University of Waikato. She then moved to Auckland to study for an Honours year in Musicology at Auckland University where she gained a BMus (Hons) with First Class Honours. During this time Anita studied flute with Catherine Bowie.

In 2003/04 she spent a year studying for her Masters degree in Performance Flute at Canterbury Christ Church University in the UK with flute tutor Jon Cherry. She performed in a number of concerts in the Canterbury area including competing in the Kent Competitive Festival where she won the Concerto class of the competition.

She also won the Presidents’ Prize at a recital given by the four main winners of the Festival at St Peters Methodist Church, Canterbury. Anita was also awarded a bursary by the Canterbury Arts Council to attend the Edinburgh Flute Course with David Nicolson (Principal Flute with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra).

Having returned to NZ, Anita teaches both privately and in the itinerant school system, as well as playing regularly with several orchestras in Auckland, Tauranga and Hamilton.

Repertoire

Music selections range from Mozart to Bach to Jazz and include wedding favourites such as Pachebel's Canon and The Wedding March. We are open to requests made in advance of the event/function and will do our best to accommodate them.
